This Cookie Policy explains how Disqua ("we", "our", "us") uses cookies and similar technologies when you visit disqua.com or use the Disqua console application at console.disqua.com. We have designed our cookie usage to be minimal and privacy-respecting.
Cookies are small text files that are stored in your web browser when you visit a website. They allow the website to recognise your browser on subsequent visits and remember certain information about you, such as your login session or preferences. Cookies are widely used to make websites function properly and to provide information to the website's owners.
Cookies can be classified in several ways:
Disqua uses a very small number of strictly necessary and functional cookies. We do not use advertising cookies, retargeting cookies, or any cookies that track your behaviour across websites. All cookies we set are first-party cookies, scoped to disqua.com and console.disqua.com only.
The following table describes every cookie set by Disqua:
Purpose: Keeps you authenticated and logged in to the Disqua console application (console.disqua.com). This cookie stores an encrypted session token that is validated on every request to verify your identity. Without this cookie, the application cannot function and you would be required to log in on every page load.
Expiry: Expires at the end of your browser session unless you check "Remember me" at login, in which case it persists for 7 days.
Can it be disabled? No. This cookie is strictly necessary for the Service to function. Disabling it will prevent you from using the Disqua console.
Purpose: A CSRF (Cross-Site Request Forgery) protection token. This cookie works together with a hidden form field to prevent malicious third-party websites from sending unauthorised requests to Disqua on your behalf. It is a standard security measure required for all web applications that accept form submissions.
Expiry: Session-scoped — expires when your browser session ends.
Can it be disabled? No. This cookie is strictly necessary for security. Disabling it will break form submissions in the console.
Purpose: Stores your dark or light theme preference so that the console displays in your preferred visual style on subsequent visits. Without this cookie, the application will revert to the default theme each time you load the page.
Expiry: 1 year from the date it is set or last updated.
Can it be disabled? Yes. You can delete this cookie at any time via your browser settings. The Service will continue to function normally; it will simply reset to the default theme.
Purpose: Stores your language preference on the disqua.com marketing website so that the correct language version is displayed on future visits. This cookie is only set if you explicitly select a language from the language switcher.
Expiry: 1 year from the date it is set or last updated.
Can it be disabled? Yes. You can delete this cookie at any time. Without it, the website will display in the default language (English) or attempt to use your browser's language setting.
We do not use the following types of cookies or tracking technologies:
We use PostHog for product analytics to understand how the Service is used and to improve the user experience. Our PostHog instance is self-hosted in the European Union — no data is sent to PostHog's cloud or to any third party.
Importantly, PostHog is configured in cookieless mode. Instead of cookies, PostHog uses localStorage to store a randomly generated, anonymous session identifier. This identifier cannot be used to identify you as an individual and is not shared with any third party. No personal data is transmitted to PostHog or any external service as part of our analytics setup.
You can manage, restrict, or delete cookies through your browser settings. Below are instructions for the most common browsers. Note that disabling strictly necessary cookies (disqua_session and disqua_csrf) will prevent you from using the Disqua console.
Go to Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data. You can clear all cookies, block cookies by site, or see all cookies currently stored in your browser.
Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data → Clear Data. You can manage exceptions to allow or block cookies per site under Manage Exceptions.
Go to Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data. You can remove all website data or remove data for specific sites. On iOS, go to Settings → Safari → Clear History and Website Data.
Go to Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies and site data. You can see, block, and delete cookies per site.
For more information about managing cookies, visit allaboutcookies.org.
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our cookie usage or applicable law. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
